Remember Me

The finish line was just the start.

About Us

From champion racers to the quiet, unknown runners, every Thoroughbred has a story worth telling. At Remember Me, we honor those stories by giving retired and injured racehorses the chance to heal, retrain, and thrive in their next chapter.

Remember Me Rescue was founded in 2008 with the rescue of Lights on Broadway, the 2001 Texas Horse of the Year. Once a celebrated champion, Lights was discovered in a trailer bound for slaughter in Canada. His story became the spark that ignited our mission—to ensure that no Thoroughbred is forgotten once their racing days are over.

Created by racehorse trainers and dedicated volunteers, Remember Me provides retired and injured Thoroughbreds with a safe, meaningful second chapter beyond the track. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are committed to accepting, rehabilitating, and retraining ex-racehorses with the goal of placing them in loving, responsible homes.

Since 2014, Remember Me has proudly held accreditation from the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, a recognition of our high standards of care and commitment to equine welfare.

The majority of our horses are donated by their racing connections when it’s time for them to transition into new careers. Some arrive with injuries and need rest and rehabilitation before retraining, while others simply weren’t competitive enough at the track. On occasion, when resources allow, we also step in to acquire Thoroughbreds from the auction pipeline, offering them a second chance they may not have otherwise received.

From the ground up, we provide each horse with a strong foundation so they have the best chance at a successful and fulfilling new life.

At Remember Me, we believe every horse—whether a champion or an underdog—has a story worth being told, and we are honored to help them write their next chapter.
