As many people know this is not the real story, Carmel was badly injured at the Fair Grounds last year when kicked by a horse just in front of the winners circle after her husband Eric Heitzmann's horse won a race. The injury she received required immediate surgery and partial removal of parts of her intestine. We almost lost Carmel.
With the prayers and well wishes of many people and several months rest, Carmel is not only back on her feet but running. She was so moved by the seizure of the 60+ starving horses by Remember Me Rescue and the Louisiana Horse Rescue that she wanted to do something to bring attention to organizations like ours.

Carmel's injury hasn't slowed her down her love for horses. She is at the barn everyday, 7 days a week working with her husband, thoroughbred trainer, Eric Heitzmann
