HOW ABOUT BEING A SPONSOR???

You can help us help the 'hard to place' horses at Remember Me with a monthly $10-25 sponsorship for an individual horse or a one time donation in a horses honor.  This type donation is very important to us.  Your pledge will help us to continue to provide care for older and injured horses that sometimes take many months to recover before homes can be found.
As a sponsor your name will be placed under the horses information and we will be happy to put your business logo or link on the Remember Me site to help promote you for helping us help these wonderful animals.

Remember Me Rescue
OCEANS FINER
Oceans Finer

Oceans Finer, newly named Chance, is a sweet gelding that has recovering from really rough few months.  Chance along with 3 other horses were sold by their owner/breeder at a slaughter sale and made his way  to the holding pens of Eagle Pass awaiting his turn to go into Mexico for slaughter processing.  With the work of many hard working dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly raising money and making plans to rescue Chance he and the other thoroughbreds there were purchased and relocated to new homes.

Chance seemed to be suffering from some aggression issues after all of the traumatic experiences he had endured.  He frequently pinned his ears at the people trying to take care of him causing much concern.  Lynn Parks, the woman in charge of finding Chance a new life, called me asking if we could help.  Chance was moved to Remember Me Rescue for 'therapy'.

Chance bit two people the first week he was here.  When I arrived home later in the week we began working with him and to my surprise with no problems.  One day I led Chance up to the fence to meet some folks and he pinned his ears at them when they tried to pet him.   I began working him through some paces and brought him back to the fence.  He was good that time.  He was a very unpredictable horse to say the least.

After several days in a row of working with Chance with no issues I gave him a day off.  The following day as I walked into the pasture to get him he started walking towards me, his big ears flopping and a kind look in his eye.  Suddenly he charged me with no warning.  Luckily I had a lead rope in my hand and swung it at him and he retreated.

Back to the drawing board.  After I caught Chance I took him to the round pen and began a new more intense training regiment.  Chance was desensitized to tarps, pool noodles and taught to walk up and down  our mounted patrol training steps.  He is also being ridden several times a week and on days he is not ridden he is worked in the round pen.  We still do not let volunteers approach him without  supervision but I feel like we have made big progress in teaching him he is not as tough and scary as he thought he was.  Because of his previous aggression issues Chance will not be suitable as a family horse but needs a real job and a real leader to help him with his issues.

ADOPTION PENDING

Chance has a pending adoption with a young man who is an accomplished horsemen.  He will have a challenging job and be ridden frequently by his new owner if the adoption is a success.  I wanted to thank everyone who participated the rescue of this really neat horse.  He has come so far and looks like it is going to be a success.  A big special thank you to Michelle Fields who has donated her time to ride Chance and start him on his path to a new career.  Thanks to Lynn and all who helped her by researching and raising the money needed to rescue Chance from Eagle Pass.

MEAUX SPEED
Meaux Speed

Meaux Speed is a 4 year old dark brown thoroughbred filly who was retired from the track this spring.  Meaux has an arthritic knee that prevents her from continuing her racing career but will not keep her from being a trail, pleasure, or dressage horse.   The knee only bothered her after intense speed work.
Meaux has had plenty of rest time and is back riding and doing very well.
You will not meet a sweeter filly than Meaux.  She is very kind and loves people.  She loves having her face stroked and will let you brush on her all day long.  Meaux's disposition will make her a wonderful horse for anyone with a little riding experience.   Meaux is currently turned out with other mares.  She is easy to catch and has no bad habits.  She is current on all vaccinations and has a negative coggins.
Meaux is ready for adoption and a new career.

Adoption fee $750

NUGGET'S LIL SIS
broodmares, riding prospects
Nuggets Lil Sis
NUGGET'S LIL SIS is a 5 year old bay thoroughbred mare, winner of 1 race,  who is a half sister to multiple stakes winner GOLD NUGGET, winner of 15 races, including 6 stake races and made over $783,000.  She has great broodmare potential and nicks very well with the SEATTLE SLEW line. (GOLD NUGGET was by GOLD LEGEND by SEATTLE SLEW).
Nugget was not retired for an injury.  She is 100% sound.  She stands 15.2 hands tall and has the right disposition to make a nice trail or show horse.  Nugget is very calm and with a little riding should make a nice school/lesson horse.  She is quiet enough for trails and has terrific ground manners.  She is very, very sweet and loves all the attention she can get.

CLEARLY PERSUADED
Clearly Persuaded is a  4 year old, 16.2 hand filly retired from racing from a knee fracture.   She was given plenty of time off and the knee has now healed.  She has no cosmetic or lameness issues resulting from the frature.
CP is being ridden English a couple of times a week and is turned out with other mares in a large paddock.  She gets along well with the others and has no bad habits.  She is an easy easy keeper, just one gallon of pellets am and pm and grass hay.
Clearly Persuaded broke her maiden at Sam Houston Race Park going 5 1/2 furlongs, coming from last place to win by almost 3 lengths.  Clearly Persuaded is a great broodmare prospect for racing or to breed to a sport horse.

CATSKY
Catsky
Looking for sponsors for this wonderful gelding
We need a few people to help us with CATSKY's expenses.  Email
rememebermerescue@live.com for more details.

We are looking for sponsors for CATSKY.  He was donated by his owner and trainer after he injured a suspensory ligament during a race at the Fair Grounds on December 21, 2009.  Thanks to his jockey who immediately realized something had gone wrong, his life was save by quickly pulling him up.  CATSKY will need lots of care while he is rehabilitating at Remember Me Rescue.  We estimate he will be here at least 6-9 months, if not longer, before he can be placed in a new home.
Please consider sponsoring  CATSKY while he is here by helping us continue to give him and the other injured horses here everything they need.
To sponsor CATSKY or another injured horse here please email remembermerescue@live.com and give us your name and donation pledge so we may add you to the sponsorship list.

BIG IMPROVEMENT!!!

Catsky's bow has been healing very nicely.   Picture on the right was taken 1-10-10, picture on the right was taken 4-11-10, just three months later.  Notice the leg looks 1/2 the size it was right after the injury.  Catsky now has a terrific prognosis!

rehabilitating race horses
CATSKY, well on the way to recovery
If there was ever any doubt about what a tremendous heart this beautiful gelding has please watch his last race.  Catsky was on the lead when his suspensory ligament gave way but his jockey Francisco Torres knew something went wrong.  We give the credit to him for saving this horse even though Catsky still would have tried to win the race if he would have let him.  Catsky has the heart to overcome this injury and have a productive life with our help.  Please consider being his sponsor with a monthly donation.

At Remember Me Racehorse Rescue not all horses are adoptable.

Some of the horses that have been donated to us have multiple issues that have make it very hard to find homes for them.   Their age, past racing injuries, and the high cost of special feeds and supplements make these horses 'unwanted'.

We are looking for sponsors to help us meet the needs of these aging horses by making a monthly donation in their honor.

To donate to the care of one of these special horses please email us at

YEAH ME DO "YAMMI"
Yeah Me Do
(permanent resident)

Yammi is my hero.
Yammi's breeder and trainer lost track of him in the 1980's when he was claimed in Southern California.  They gave up looking for him when someone told him he died a year after being claimed.  Through the Alex Brown Horse Forum they we reunited and have been keeping tabs on Yammi since.
To read more about Yeah Me Do from our blog click HERE.

Yeah Me Do's breeders, Roy and Sue Adolfo, recently visited our farm to see him after over 20 years of wondering what had happened to him.  They were told he had died after he was claimed from them in the 1980's, you can imagine how excited they were to find out he was alive and well.  They now sponsor his care while he is at Remember Me Rescue.

CLASSIC COZZEEN
Classic Cozzeen
(permanent resident)

Classic is a 16 year old retired broodmare and is a permanent resident of Remember Me Rescue.  She slipped her foal last year and her owners decided to retire her from being a broodmare and donate her to Remember Me where she could just be a horse.  We attempted to find a home for Classic but there was not much call for an old broke down broodmare.  We decided to let her live out her days here at Remember Me.

Classic has several issues that make her unadoptable.  Her bad stifle and arthritic ankles are her main problems.  She can not be turned out in a herd due to her lameness issues and has to be kept separate or with another very docile mare.  Of course she is on a senior feed which is more expensive than regular feed so she is more expensive to care for.

Classic Cozzeen needs sponsors to help contribute to her long term care at Remember Me Rescue.  Please email
remembermerescue@live.com if you are interested in becoming a monthly sponsor for sweet old Classic.
