Be Bop Baby was born April 8th, 1997 and raced in Maryland. She started 19 times but only won one race and earned less than $10,000. She was retired to be a broodmare. Unfortunately she ended up in a really bad place and suffered years of starvation and abuse at Charles Fords farm in Many, Louisiana.
In 2012 Be Bop Baby was rescued through a seizure along with nearly 60 other starving thoroughbred mares, yearlings, and stallions. She was one of the lucky ones. There were dozens of other horses found dead on the property.
The photos below were from the actually rescue site and were taken by Donna Keen. They may be disturbing to some but take comfort in knowing she is safe now and will live out her days at Remember Me.
These photos were taken at the farm where she was rescued when we were there to assist in the seizure. Other photos were taken shortly afterward. It is so hard to believe someone could do this to one horse, but Charles Ford starved over 120 horses, about 60 of them were dead when we arrived. He is currently serving a long jail sentence for this horrific act.
