Rio, as we call him, is a 17 year old gelding who was found at the horse auction by one of our volunteers. He was brought by a local trader and we intervened before he could end up in a kill pen. The story that came with him is he was owned by an older gentleman who can no longer care for him. He supposedly used him for cattle work and roped off from him. We will get back to you on that....
Rio is here gaining a little weight before we start his retraining. Check back for updates.
What we do know is he raced 43 times in cheap claiming races and only won once. He seems very sound, maybe he never tried hard enough to hurt himself. His legs are clean and he has an amazing attitude with impecable ground manners.
