Remember Me

The finish line was just the start.

GO TO THE NET, aka RIO

ADOPTION FEE WAIVED TO THE PERFECT HOME

Rio is patiently waiting for his forever home. He has been ridden under saddle several times since getting his feet back in order, along with some turnout time. After several rides, Rio has let us know, that after racing 43 times, being 17 years old, and doing some other things here and there before he came to us, he is ready for a retirement in which being ridden is NOT part of the deal, or if he is ridden, it looks like trails are going to be his thing. He has been turned out with (2) other geldings and thrives on being the head guy in charge. So much so, that his pasture pals just let him do his own thing, and as a grandson to Tabasco Cat, Rio is definitely the strong, independent type and just fine with being left to do his own thing. He's not your typical "warm, cuddly, in your pocket" type gelding, but he does look magnificent galloping across the pasture!

Rio is NOT for a beginner/intermediate rider. Rio needs a confident owner who will be able to remind him that even though he is beautiful, he still has to abide by ground manners and can't push people around just because he has a stunning mane and tail and a coat that glistens in the sun. He has been turned out with mares previously, and it was the same as with the geldings, just indifferent and stand-offish. He really is just content with flying through his field solo. We are waiving Rio's adoption fee for just the right home. Could that be you?

Rio, as we call him, is a 17 year old gelding who was found at the horse auction by one of our volunteers.  He was brought by a local trader and we intervened before he could end up in a kill pen.  The story that came with him is he was owned by an older gentleman who can no longer care for him.  He supposedly used him for cattle work and roped off from him.  We will get back to you on that....

We promised we would get back to you on Rio's under saddle work, and here is what we know now. Rio's feet were super tender when he arrived to us, so he is currently in front shoes, and is much happier, but should be able to go back to being barefoot once he gets a little more growth. Now that his feet are feeling good, and he is of a healthy weight, he is ready for his forever home.
