Trooper was rescued from Rancho Cima, a Boy Scout Ranch in San Marcos, Tx several months ago along with 15 other thoroughbreds. His foster mom did a great job with him and now he is ready for his new home. Trooper was never tattooed and never raced but we believe his registered name is Joyful Department from identification from his previous owner who donated him to the ranch. Here is what his foster mom has to say about him....
Trooper is a solid 16.2 hands which makes him quite the big boy. He is very big boned and with his personality, confirmation, and movement he would be well suited for dressage, jumping, or eventing. I foresee
him making someone a very nice dressage prospect as he has nice movement for the sport. He also has natural collection which can be seen in the pictures taken his fourth ride under saddle. He has a very comfortable walk and trot, he has not been cantered under saddle yet. He ties, loads, stands for the farrier, baths, blankets, lunges with side reins, and has been under saddle seven times as of 01/27/13. His training will continue under saddle until he is adopted. He is being fostered in Stockdale, TX which is roughly one hour from San Antonio, TX and two hours from Austin and Houston.
Trooper has been a complete joy to work with and is extremely willing. He is very green but tries hard to do everything you ask of him. He has a very relaxed personality which reflects how easy he has been to train. He has never offered to buck, rear, bolt, etc under saddle. He is a little on lazy side which makes him very easy to handle. He needs an experienced rider simply for the fact that he is so green. With additional training he would be well suited for a novice rider. Trooper is not very reactive and is comfortable with leg and hand contact. He is also very forgiving under saddle. His is a total love bug and really enjoys long grooming sessions, hand grazing, and of course treats! After suffering neglect from where he was rescued Trooper will eat anything...there is not a picky bone in his body!
ADOPTION FEE $300
Trooper will be at Remember Me anytime after Saturday February 23rd and will be available for adoption. He has limitations that will prevent him from jumping or speed events due to a issue within his hoof. He will be sound for light riding and trails.
Trooper has come a long way since the being rescued. When he was found he was several hundred pounds underweight. Even though Kathryn did all the right things he suffered a terrible bout of colic after being reintroduced to food. After several days at the clinic and days and days of fluids and medication, Trooper earned his name. He pulled through and now is ready to move on to a new family.
