Remember Me Rescue is a Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Accredited 501(c)3 organization specializing in rehabilitating, retraining and rehoming retired racehorses
May 29, 2013 a sale barn that had been closed for several years reopened as a public horse sale. It will be held every Wednesday night. The men who run the sale are known buyers for slaughter horses.
Remember Me Rescue is committed to monitoring the thoroughbreds that are run through the sale. Although we realize we will not be able to save them all, we will do what we can to bring as many as possible to RMR to rehab, retrain, and place in new homes as finances allow.
If you would like to help us in our efforts to remove thoroughbreds from this auction you may contribute by becoming a Team Restart Member or donate to a particular horses care through a PayPal button we will place with each horses information that is removed from the sale.
From time to time we have a situation come up where we need to raise money fast for a sale barn rescue and we don't have time to build a paypal button for the individual horse. This will be the sale barn rescue donation button. I want to sincerely thank everyone who gives at a moments notice to help us save tattooed thoroughbreds who shouldn't be at meat auctions.
The latest sale barn rescues...
On May 17, 2017 RMR purchased Angliano from the Cleburne Sale Barn. He was one of the last horses to run through the ring and was being bid on by the man who owns the Kaufman Kill Pen. We out bid him paying $490 for the very lame gelding.
If you know anything about horse slaughter you know the plants, (supposedly), will not accept horses that can not walk accross the scales. This horse could barely walk at all and in a day or two at a kill pen would have been down and unable to get up. He also would have lost too much weight to make him a profit for a meat buyer. This leads us to strongly believe he was being purchased to pull on the heart strings of horse lovers through the Kaufman kill pen page. His bail would have put enough money in the mans pockets to buy 2-4 more horses.
We encourage everyone who wants to truly rescue a horse to visit the sale barn. Buy your horse before he ends up on a lot or adopt from your local accreditted rescue. By doing this you take a horse like Angliano out of the slaughter pipeline.
HoofPros at work
Casts applied on both front
Much more comfortable Angliano
Angliano was seen the next day by HoofPros and received a much needed trimming and cast applied to his feet to make him more comfortable as we access his rotation. He was seen by Dr. Doug Traver and was xrayed on Saturday. He has minimal rotation and a very good prognosis. We raised enough money to cover his immediate needs the night of the sale but there are others and we need your help.
If this type of rescue is important to you as it is to us please help us in our mission to rehabilitate and retrain these wonderful animals. They do not deserve to end their lives this way. Join TEAM RESTART today or make a one time donation through PayPal at email@example.com
