Laycock Bay was born on May 6, 2011, a old war horse who raced 76 times. During his long career he won 16 races, ran 11 seconds, and 14 thirds, earning $183,942. His last race was August 29, 2021. He was retired. Laycock's trainer had previously been approached by a family friend who asked if he could have Laycock for his kids due to his kind nature. His trainer agreed and Laycock left the track and became a family horse.
Fast forward to June 15, 2022. We found Laycock at a local horse sale and purchased him with money raised on social media from our followers. He ran through the auction at 1:30 am. It was a very long day but absolutely worth the wait.
After Laycock's quarantine and evaluations were complete, we decided due to his arthritic condition and other special needs to make him a sanctuary resident. But, fast forward 2 years and his condition has improved to the point that there is no reason he should be taking up a spot here anymore. Laycock has been seen by our vet and has been cleared for riding.
