Cactus Cafe was in line to be slaughtered. She was so close to the bolt gun that she and her stablemate Canuki had already had their tails cut off. At the almost "to late" moment the necessary paperwork to prove their ineligibility to be slaughtered was produced and they were pulled from the line.
After a long drawn out debate that has been thoroughly discussed on the internet Cactus and Canuki were privately purchased from the creep who tried to end there lives. They were both donated to Remember Me Rescue to be placed in new homes.
Both horses were a part of the Inaugural RMR Trainers Challenge at Will Rogers Coliseum on April 27th where 10 RMR horses and 10 professional trainers competed for $10,000 in prize money. Canuki, along with his trainer Danielle Tursky, won the hearts of everyone with his amazing jumping ability but Cactus Cafe was shown over jumps as a 'demonstration only' due to a relocation issue with her original trainer. She was shown by Jenna Jones and returned to RMR to be placed with a new family.
Cactus Cafe
Heres what Jenna Jones had to say about Cactus Cafe:
"Cactus is doing great with her Dressage Training. She is a natural! After just a few rides she was leg yielding and giving me some shoulder in as well. She has natural self carriage, very soft in the bridle, and beautiful movement! I also jumped her for the first time the other day and she really liked it! Cactus will be a great dressage or event horse! She is quiet and easy enough to ride for an amateur or a jr/young rider but also fancy enough for an open rider! She was instantly a barn favorite with her sweet personality too!"
Cactus Cafe
is a natural athlete and is ready to begin her show career. She is very kind and gentle. Despite of the betrayal from her previous owner, she loves and trusts everyone. She is sound and healthy. Please email
Where else will you find a horse that has already had several months training, been shown and jumped, and is the reason we do what we do? Cactus Cafe is a survivor and her story will continue to inspire others to fight the fight against slaughter.
