A 501(c)3 Tax exempt program specializing in rehabilitating and retraining retired racehorses
May 29, 2013 a sale barn that had been closed for several years reopened as a public horse sale. It will be held every Wednesday night. The men who run the sale are known buyers for slaughter horses.
Remember Me Rescue is committed to monitoring the thoroughbreds that are run through the sale. Although we realize we will not be able to save them all, we will do what we can to bring as many as possible to RMR to rehab, retrain, and place in new homes as finances allow.
If you would like to help us in our efforts to remove thoroughbreds from this auction you may contribute by becoming a Team Restart Member or donate to a particular horses care through a PayPal button we will place with each horses information that is removed from the sale.
From time to time we have a situation come up where we need to raise money fast for a sale barn rescue and we don't have time to build a paypal button for the individual horse. This will be the sale barn rescue donation button. I want to sincerely thank everyone who gives at a moments notice to help us save tattooed thoroughbreds who shouldn't be at meat auctions.
The latest sale barn rescues...
Stealnthisone is a 6 year old thoroughbred gelding who was pulled from the Gonzales Sale Barn on Septemeber 20th. He is currently available for adoption at RMR. Read all about him on his page
Twig and A.P. Notebook, two young fillies who were purchased from the Cleburne Horse Sale.
Both fillies were beat up and thin when RMR volunteers found them. Now both girls have been adopted and are in their new forever homes.
Huge thanks to Volunteer Wendy who offered to quarantine the girls at her house until they were ready to come to Remember Me Rescue and thank you to all the people who helped to sponsor them.
Sale Barn Success...
Handsomely was at Cleburne Horse Sale on September 18th. We posted his info on facebook hoping to be able to raise enough funds to cover the cost of purchasing him. While we were telling people about him a few incredible things happened. The jockey, Cassandra Buckley, who won her first race on him contacted us. She in turn contacted the trainer she rode for when she won on him, Brian House. Then the breeder of Handsomely learned about his rescue and contacted us as well. This all goes to show people in the racing industry love their horses. The jockey, trainer from his past, and his breeder all donated to help us purchase him and save his life. We were one bid above a well know slaughter buyer. Without them and the countless other horse lovers who had been following Handsomely's rescue throughout the evening pitching in together we would not have been able to save him.
How he fell into the wrong hands will be investigated. He last raced 18 days prior to being purchased in the sale by trainer Connie Jo Taylor at Louisiana Downs. Less than 3 weeks later was on the road to a Mexican slaughter house.
Thank you everyone who donated towards his rescue and his care. His jockey as well as his breeder have both expressed interest in adopting him. Handsomely will never be in this situation again.
Venture Database at the Sale Barn
Venture Database was purchased on 8/21 for $400 at the Cleburne Horse Auction. We had to flip lips to find her because no tb's were checked in. Glad we did, this super sweet mare didn't deserve to be there. She has been adopted and is in her forever home. Please help us continue to pull thoroughbreds from slaughter sales by supporting our efforts.
Eddies Girl at Horse Sale
Eddies Girl, purchased from the sale barn on June 12, 2013 for $375. She was adopted and is now a wonderful trail companion.
