Laycock Bay is an 11 year old war horse who raced 76 times. During his long career he won 16 races, ran 11 seconds, and 14 thirds, earning $183,942. When it came time to retire Laycock Bay, his trainer was approached by a family friend who asked if he could have Laycock for his kids due to his kind nature. His trainer agreed and Laycock left the track and became a family horse.
Fast forward to June 15th. We found Laycock at a local horse sale and purchased him with money raised on social media from our followers. He ran through the auction at 1:30 am. It was a very long day but absolutely worth the wait.
The following day Laycock Bay's previous trainer called us very upset, wanting details and even offering to help with Laycock's expenses. His family friend had betrayed him and was not returning his calls.
Laycock is safe and recovering from a few bumps and bruises he received at the sale barn while crammed in a pen with a dozen or so other horses. He is gaining weight and doing well in our quarantine barn with no signs of sickness so far. We will be updating this page when he completes his QT and we can evaluate him further for soundness and ability.
Thank you to everyone who donated and reached out to follow up with Laycock Bay. We could not have changed this horse's fate without you.
Please help us by donating towards Laycock Bay's care and rehabilitation.
